New York City Bus Trip – All Of The Details

posted by: Jonathan Desrosiers on October 30th, 2009

December 11, 2009 7:00 amtoDecember 12, 2009 12:00 am

OK, so with all that has been going on with the bus trip, what is actually going to happen? Well this is what this post is about.

The NYC bus trip for 2009:
December 11th
We will be leaving from Gaebe Commons around 7am
We will return some time later that night.
The cost will be between $10-$20 (We will know exactly as we get closer).

Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, Sterling Brands is not able to give us a tour of their studios during the month of December. We are however pursuing a few other leads for the design studios that we will tour and we will announce where we will be going as soon as we have it confirmed.

So what now? Well, because of the limited seats on the bus, it will be first come first serve. So if you are interested in coming, make sure that you reserve your seat ASAP.

You can do so by either emailing us at aigajwu@gmail.com, or calling our Google Voice number and leaving a message! Our GV number is (762) 333-AIGA.

So make sure you are checking in for more details! We will need you to respond quickly to us if you are going because we will need a few things from you in order to get the trip to happen such as emergency contact information.

“Hustwit’s cinematic style is as crisp and modern as a Design Within Reach catalog. An exuberant trip through Ikea promotes feel-good consumerism like a Swedish indie rock video (we hear it was actually filmed by strapping a camera down to one of Ikea’s carts and wheeling it through the showroom). Target and MUJI also get nods for their focus on design with shop-n-rock sections. The opening montage quirkily highlights how many things are “designed” with all the playfulness of a film by Charles and Ray Eames.”

Overview

The Rhode Island IDSA Chapter announced today the screening of the film Objectified by Gary Hustwit. The IDSA Rhode Island Chapter is the leading group in the state, representing product designers of all types.

Objectified is a film about Industrial Design. This documentary is about our complex relationship with manufactured objects and, by extension, the people who design them. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. The film documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential product designers, and looks at how the things they make impact our lives. What can we learn about who we are, and who we want to be, from the objects with which we surround ourselves?
